A 102 year old man becomes the oldest person to have surgery so that he can continue gardening.
John Lawrence Randall, known as Laurie, has reached the grand old age of 102 and is still going strong. This isn’t the first time he has undergone the op - he previously had his hip replaced in 1989.
The centenarian enjoys walking, although sometimes he struggles to do the hobby he enjoys so much. He was never very good at sitting still.
The pensioner was prompted to have the two hour operation because of his passion for gardening.
His granddaughter has credited the man with ‘true Yorkshire determination.’ Gillian Coates said ‘Even at 101 he was digging up his garden.’
Mr Randall could earn himself a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. The current holder was 101 when she had the operation five years ago.
The chirpy man said ‘I tell my legs what to do, they don’t tell me.’ He is not far off his goal of reaching the age of 105, but he only wants to do so if he can remain self sufficient.
