Thursday 2nd February 2012 | Osh

The oldest replica of Leonardo Da Vinci's famous painting Mona Lisa was discovered in Madrid's Prado Museum. According to the BBC News the museum had owned the painting for years, but realized its value after a recent restoration. The panel contains a copy of Da Vinci's smiling woman, but was covered with a thick coat of black paint and varnish. After the removal of some layers, the replica came out. According to the museum it is a painting by Leonardo's students sometime in the 16th century, painted at the same time as the original masterpiece. The original, which is now in the Louvre in Paris, is in poor condition and is covered by a thick layer of cracked paint. The image on the replica is much clearer and allows “To see the eyes of Lisa better," the newspaper said.
