Monika Kruse Interview

House | Tuesday 6th December 2011 | Osh

Now tonight we’re celebrating ten years of Terminal M. Now what exactly is it ten years of- what are we celebrating?
It’s the anniversary of my label,it’s still alive! (Laughs)

I’m sure that means a lot to you. Has it been a ten-year whirlwind for you?
Yeah, I mean, it was not always good times especially now; it’s really bad to sell something. But then I experienced that there are new people collecting the stuff of Terminal M; the younger generation. I have newcomers on my label now like Erman Erim is playing live and Tim is coming out in a couple of months, so I’m really looking forward and still liking it.

So how did you make the change from the real roots of hip hop into techno, how did that come about?
I was into hip hop, funk and soul and when I made the slide into electronic music,I started with vocal house and deep house, so it’s kind of familiar to soul music-you know, with singing, voices very melodic stuff.  And then when the harder techno or the ruder techno came out,I was really impressed by the new sounds and new way of producing.

Ibiza is amazing but is there anywhere else close to your heart?
I love  Japan-but everybody loves Japan. The people there are super nice and the atmosphere in the clubs is very intense and the people freak out. It’s a different  kind of style to here in Europe, but even so... I love travelling around; I love to explore new cultures-I’m going  now to South Africa, I’ve never been, and it was like a dream come true to me.

Is there anything in particular you’re looking forward to?
You know, every gig is kind of exciting because every time it’s like, “Do I get the crowd? Do they understand my music? Can I show something I really like?”

Good luck for tonight and we can’t wait to hear you. Check us out!
Thank you!
