Legend Steve Jobs Loses Cancer Battle Aged 56

Other | Thursday 6th October 2011 | Osh

The legend behind Apple, Steve Jobs has sadly passed away last night aged just 56.

Jobs had been fighting cancer for several years and earlier this year stepped down as CEO of the company due to the illness saying he needed to rest and relax. Unfortunatly he lost his tough battle with a rare form of pancreatic cancer last night, October 5th. Apple released this statement in tribute: "Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives … The world is immeasurably better because of Steve." Apple was briefly the most valuable company in the world earlier this year, even ahead of oil company Exxon Mobil. The company produces $65.2bn a year in revenue compared with $7.1bn in its business year ending September 1997.

Always a man of incredible words, this seemed the most fitting for the billionaire who is said to have left an estimated $8.3bn: "Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn't matter to me … Going to bed at night saying we've done something wonderful … that's what matters to me."
