Each month we break down the key attributes of up-and-coming trends for all you fashionistas out there... This month we take a look at ‘preppy chic’
It is time to head back to Uni, which means the almighty clear-out of your stationery is looming, as is the impending need to update your wardrobe. We here at TGN know it isn’t always easy to hunt down clothes that can serve as both sophisticated and cool so we’ve handpicked some of the freshest bits and pieces to construct this particular look.
The beauty of dressing ‘preppy’ is that it gives you the freedom to combine elements of chic and smart with carefree and comfortable. Choose classical but elegant garments with neutral or pastel colours such as marine blue, cream, nude, black, grey or pine green. Bank on a skirt above the knees combined with a top or a shirt with a Peter Pan collar and if you’re cold, add a cardigan. Regarding the accessories, you can play with hairband-bows and moccasin shoes.
For example, floral frocks can be combined with over-sized boyfriend blazers and slouchy brogues can be made complete with cute socks. The preppy muses: Alexa Chung, Leighton Meester and Chloé Sevigny.
