Quick-fire Q&A with Alle Farben!

Alle Farben (that's German for "All Colours") has been DJing and producing for 5 years, but the release of his debut album, Synethesia - I Think In Colours in May last year helped to catapult him into the international party circuit, with gigs as far away as Thailand, Autralia, Malaysia and the US as well as frequent dates in Europe. Luckily he had enough time to answer a few questions for Guestlist ahead of the UK release of his new single, She Moves.
Do you think growing up in Germany influenced your music?
Of course, I think Germany and especially Berlin provides so many opportunities for artists. After the fall of the Wall, the city was extremely cheap and so many really interesting artists came to live and work here. That said, I enjoyed a lot of influences growing up in Berlin.
“She Moves” is getting released in the UK very soon. Are you excited? How long did it take you to get to this point?
The first sketches for “She Moves” were developed in late summer 2013, so it's already taken 15 months to get to this point. We released the single in Germany in April and it became one of the summer hit singles of 2014. That was really a great feeling, having everyone know the song. In June, it even went gold.
I can say, I am excited to have “She Moves” finally released in the UK.
The video features Graham Candy cycling sporting a curly moustache. What was the inspiration for the video?
When we released the first "Street Video“ for She Moves, we just wanted to have some Berlin-inspired shots synched with the music.
So we started searching for a director/producer who understood the idea of the song to shoot a video that wouldn't be dull or uninspired.
Franck Trebillac came up with this great idea of doing a Wes Anderson style video, and so we went to London shooting the video with him.
What’s the maddest show you’ve ever played?
That probably is my gig on the old “Airfield Tempelhof” in Berlin on May 1st 2013. It was one of the most amazing and inspiring gigs that I have played so far. My agency promoted the event on 1st of May (which is a holiday in Germany) and planned to have 5.000 – 10.000 visitors. In the end more than 35.000 people came to dance during my set. I realised that something unique happened that day, and that I could count myself lucky for being in the right place at the right time.
Which artists are you really enjoying listening to right now?
I really enjoy listening to modern classical music and artists like Olafur Arnalds.
Do you have any dream collaborations?
I’d like to work with Erlend Oye. Also Troels Abrahamsen would be a great artist to work with in the future.
What’s your next big musical project?
I'm working on different remixes and singles at the moment. Can’t tell any names, but there is a lot to come at the beginning of 2015.
What’s your favourite pizza topping?
As I don’t eat gluten, pizza unfortunately is a no-go for me. Anyway, I really like vegetables, so it probably would be a “green garden pizza”.
