Tribal Sessions’ 14th birthday party reminded us why they’re a historical club brand

House | Tuesday 4th November 2014 | Cristina

Sankeys have been known as one of the world’s best clubs for two decades, consolidating their reputation as a leader in global clubbing soon after their genesis in Manchester, spreading to Ibiza, London and New York. Having reached their 20th anniversary this year, Sankeys were in a good place to host the 14th birthday party of affiliated brand Tribal Sessions, who’ve been partying at Sankeys since day one.

On the weekend of the 3rd and 4th October, Tribal Sessions ran an epic double header of a weekender to celebrate. The weekend also ran in celebration of the return of Tribal Sessions to Sankeys Manchester on a weekly basis, with Darius Syrossian, brand ambassador, as resident.

I popped in to the Friday the 3rd event to commemorate the double anniversary of two of dance music’s most iconic names. Ryan Croft, Oli Furness and Freeman & Farelly made an appearance behind the decks, warming up an excited crowd, packed with regulars and those from further afield, who’d come down for the weekender.

Jozef K played an impressive set to an unsuspecting room, whilst DJ Sneak was another highlight of the night. Sneak’s legendary status preceded him as a sweaty front row extended their hands to shake Sneak’s. Greg Vickers played a headline show b2b with Just Be, AKA Bushwacka. The effect of Just Be’s 2013 EP was felt on the dancefloor as the crowd responded to his tech-house enthusiastically.

Syrossian delivered one of his signature sets, rammed with bouncy, playful house. His brand of house was driving enough to keep the room jacking right to the back of the crowd, whilst lifted by an injection of the street – soul and hip hop samples permeate his productions and selections, creating the Syrossian sound which has become synonymous with Tribal. Back to back with Hector Couto, the two made a formidable combination.

The night was a smash and a great start to the double header. The following night involved appearances from Chappel, MUTE!, Daniel Sanders, Keiran Sharples.  Apollonia and Guti drew a crowd as big as the Friday night and ended the weekend with a bang, leaving Manchester free to come down from two nights of revelry.
