Have you ever seen room 2 of a club packed back to back before midnight? That's what DFTD managed to pull off on 24th October, the weekend before Halloween no less. The recently launched, more underground sub-label of Defected, tonight DFTD proved they know how to throw a party. Andy Daniell got things gradually more and more heated until it was jam-packed, ready for Sonny Fodera to step up to the decks. Fodera has become something of the face of DFTD, with a string of releases regularly appearing on the label's top tracks on Beatport. He lived up to his reputation and fully delivered; his credible house grooves had the room so packed that punters were hanging off the podiums and poles before midnight as if it was 3am in the main room.
Down in Room 1, things were getting warmed up gently but expertly by Last Magpie. His creativity and experience across house, techno, dub and garage meant he delivered a well-judged and enjoyable early night set, which sent warm and soothing vibrations through every set of feet on the dance floor.
The main event, however, was of course Santé and Sidney Charles's b2b set beginning at 1am in the main room. We've seen what these guys are capable of doing when they're put together before, when they smashed it for Avotre at ADE in an enormous laser-filled warehouse. Although this may have been a slightly smaller space, this set was no less huge - the crowd eagerly ate up the German duo's powerful trademark blend of hard-hitting house and edgier techno, matching XOYO's sweaty basement atmosphere perfectly. With Santé's début album current having recently dropped on Avotre, we would highly recommend catching him and the Avotre crew in action if you can.
