North London’s Greenwich is hardly known for its buzzing nightlife. However, reasonably new venue Studio 338 looks like it might be set to change that. Currently the only venue in the area hosting serious club nights, it’s rapidly situated itself in the top five of London’s hottest new venues. Boasting one of the largest roof terrace’s in Europe, Abode’s second night, on the 12th October, saw it temporarily covered against the elements by its now famous transparent ceiling. Said night comes after the launch party Abode did a month before with Cocoon dancers, Secret Garden Party visuals and confetti ice canons.
The 12th October night, Abode at the Forest, was the second of a new monthly daytime series which has most recently included the Abode Halloween special with Keinemusik on the 2nd November, one of the last of the Halloween parties to grace the weekend. The series runs on Sundays from 1pm to midnight. After the launch, expectations for the Abode in the Forest event were riding high. This time, Abode took place amongst the indoor forest they’d set up in collaboration with the venue and Kopparberg for the month of October.
It would be hard to botch an all-day terrace party with an indoor forest, and indeed, Abode at the Forest was a roadblock event, its fun house lineup drawing a hip, young crowd from all over London. Max Chapman warmed up the daytime crowd for Francesca Lombardo, who played to an impressively uninhibited crowd as the sun set magnificently over the forest. Her Crosstown Rebels style was comprised of sleek deep house entirely appropriate to the novelty setting and tropical vibe evinced by the hanging plants and beach hut-style DJ booth.
Headlining was Venezuelan duo Fur Coat, whose warm, melodic house filled the club perfectly after a whole day of raving had created a crowd of a mixture of diehard soldiers leftover from 1pm and new arrivals, freshly glamorous and ready to roll. Based in Barcelona, the duo’s Hispanic leanings were evident in their set as they rolled out sexy grooves and soulful, passionate electronic music.
By closing time, it was evident that Abode had consolidated itself as what could be London’s premiere Sunday party and certainly its premiere Sunday daytime rave. Watch out for the next Abode events at Studio 338 for a clubbing experience with a truly unique angle and an inimitable vibe. Find out more about Abode on their Facebook and Twitter.
