Swindle drops new EP - it's banging.

Thursday 16th October 2014 | Osh

Yesterday, Swindle dropped the next two songs from his 'Walter's Call' EP, which will be available via Bronswood and Deep Medi on 20th October. In his first solo work since 'Long Live The Jazz' EP, the South London producer now delves deeper into his obsession with jazz. Whereas last year's full-length album was infused with heavier grime and dubstep, 'Walter's Call' is a more chaotic and mischevious mele of brass, beats and melody. Through the three tracks, we experience diverse and exciting reinterpretations of classic ideas - jazz, 'jazzed up' for the 21st century, if you will...

Despite the chaos, the tracks work really cohesively. The James Bond-esque trumpets which open 'Walter's Call', appear again in 'Smash and Grab', supported by gorgeous piano melodies and breaks. 'Summer Fruits' continues the childlike adventure, opening with a mellow piano riff which opens into a funky fusion of latin beats, pop synths and gamelike Mario-Kart blasts. On a technical level, the tracks are super innovative, with fluid, inventive jazz chord progressions, a huge variety of both live-sampled and computer generated synth sounds, and well-mastered beats.

The album artwork (see above) gives further insight to Swindle's vision of the EP. Three digitally pixelated brass instruments give a 21st century feel to classic 20th century jazz, which feels like the overarching plan to Swindle's musical innovation.

You can definitely hear evidence of the producer's improvisatory prowess on the EP, which you can listen to below. We are absolutely loving the jazzy vibes.

As well as being an excellent producer, Swindle is a pretty accomplished musician and performer, known to whip out the keyboard solos during his DJ sets - check it!!
