The Fault in Our Stars

Other | Monday 14th July 2014 | Francesco

The premise of the story is simple and unusual for a teen movie. Hazel a cancer-treated girl meets in a support group Augustus a cancer free boy of her age. They start dating and their relationship begins to shape. Both of them have a troubled past caused by their unlucky growth with health problems. Hazel is a survivor,  she risked her life so badly that now she is considered a living miracle. Augustus lost his leg because of cancer.

Their bond starts to grow in such a natural way, that it’s like watching  a real life relationship; they both have their issues, they are both scared of how their life could end up, but they want to live and more importantly to feel. That’s what matters.  And then things change and the unexpected happens. The ending is just powerful and a perfect conclusion.

What I really liked about this movie is how it realistically tells the story of these two young adults.  There is no space for teen angst or too many cheesy moments. The story flows rapidly. The script is well written and Shailene Woodley and Ansel Egort perform well in their roles.  Shailene Woodley is just at her best and they both show potential as rising stars in the cinema world.  Sam Trammell and Laura Dern are just the perfect supporting characters who are able to be there without having too much screen time.

All in all, the movie is a  melancholy, sweet and heartbreaking story of life. You will spend two hours watching an entertaining movie and you will end up being satisfied with what you have seen.  It’s not a masterpiece of this decade, but it’s without doubt a must see movie for his genre.
