The compilement of tunes on this album are a carefully selected window into the heart of where rave culture began. The triple CD features Oldskool, Breakbeat and Hardcore classics dating from the 1989 'summer of rave' to 1994, the era where it all began. Taken from a time where the air of social unrest grew to bursting point and a fresh youth movement was formed around the love for new beats, these songs are a truly admirable selection that carry a lot of weight and significance for us ravers old and new.
Despite the best efforts of the conservative government to put a stop to the movement that was viewed as out of control, the foundations of the culture that began with these tunes paved the way for a following that went on to become the enormous club and electronic music world. The rawness of some of these tracks is reminiscent of a time when people were just starting to realise the awesome potential of dance music gatherings. Whether in a warehouse in essex or a field just off the M25, you can be sure that each of these tracks have had their special moments in that starting era.
The album features tunes from the likes of The Prodigy, SL2, Altern 8, LFO, Future Sound of London, 2 Bad Mice and many more legends that shaped the sound of the late 80s and early 90s rave. There is a specific vibe felt from these three disks that captures the energy of that time that played such a vital role in the shifting of music making and performance. The sleeve features a foreword by Altern 8 member Mark Archer reading "The Album serves as a brilliant insight into one of the greatest musical movements of the past 30 years - and will no doubt bring the memories flooding back for everyone who was there". The compilation has hit stores and online this Monday 21st April, have a listen through the tracks for a heavy and reminiscent glimpse into the not-so-distant past of rave culture.
