Death on Holiday

Other | Thursday 14th November 2013 | damian

A British couple’s holiday turned for the worse when they went paragliding on the island of Tenerife. The Dewdney’s from Cheltenham had been on what was supposed to be a week long vacation on the largest of the Spanish Canary Islands when disaster struck.

Mrs. Dewdney, an avid and experienced paraglider crashed on Tuesday after suffering a suspected heart attack mid glide. The 53-year-old employee of Gloucestershire Royal Hospital had been paragliding for years and this comes as a shock to her husband Nigel who was paragliding with her on that day, and her family who are paralyzed with grief over their loss.

The chief coach at Malvern Hang Gliding Club in Worchester expressed his surprise in the death as he confirmed that Mrs. Dewdney was a ‘very experienced’ glider. The Foreign Office released a statement that they are ‘providing consular assistance at this difficult time’. Condolences go to her family and beloved ones.
