As soon as Robin Thicke’s controversial music video for ‘Blurred Lines’ came out it caused a media storm and right at the centre was new pin-up Emily Ratajikowski, the 22- year old model who had everyone talking (and google-ing). She’d modelled previously for Forever 21 and Carl’s Jr. but Thicke’s video gave her the exposure most only dream off, with a million views on Vevo in just over a day.
Some have called the video as well as the song which includes lyrics ‘tried to domesticate you, but you’re an animal, baby, it’s in your nature’ appalling, claiming it objectifies women - the video features three topless models alongside Thicke, T.I. and Pharrell - however that certainly didn’t stop the song topping charts worldwide or Emily getting her step (or leap) into the limelight.
She features in a photo shoot by Terry Richardson for the November issue of GQ (Yes, that Terry Richardson, whose Miley Cyrus photos recently faced a lot of scrutiny for being vulgar and offensive). It has to be said these pictures for GQ are pretty much to the style of the photographer, an upside down ice-cream cone with Emily in a red thong in front of it holding the tip…yeah.
The brunette beauty born in London but raised in Encinitas, California, has opened up about her first reaction to the Blurred Lines video, ‘When I first saw the video, I was like, Oh, Jesus Christ, I’m so naked’. She maintains it was just her personality and there was no glamour involved, ‘I was just silly and playful and kind of ridiculous- a big dork’. She’s cute too? Wow, we love this girl!
What’s next? Emily is all set for her first major screen role in David Fincher’s film, Gone Girl, based on the best-selling mystery novel by Gillian Fynn. She'll star as Andie, mistress to married Nick Dunne, played by Ben Affleck, whose missing wife places him as a suspect in her disappearance.
