Jill Scott is back with new album The Light of The Sun

After 11 years on the scene and three Grammy awards, Jill Scott has released her fourth album, The Light of the Sun, and it’s everything any fan could desire. Inspired by her recent relationships, conversations on self-esteem with teenage girls and Grand Marnier, her latest offering is, in her own words, “revealing”. Full of Jazz, Hip-hop and Rhythm and Blues touches, the most interesting aspect is nonetheless the freestyle element of the album. Although Scott has said that she can’t take credit for writing the album, do not be mislead; this is not to say the words are not her own, only that she did not literally write them down. Much of the record was freestyled in the studio, which only adds to the lyrics’ honesty and rawness. Scott started out as a spoken word artist so it is no surprise that she still manages to speak so affectingly about relationships, love and being a woman - the key themes on the album. In her spoken word ‘Womanifesto’ Scott declares that she is a ‘motherf*cking G’; we at The Guestlist Network are inclined to agree.
