Shambala mixes it up this summer with hugely diverse lineup!
A true force of nature on the festival circuit, Shambala is back for another year with a huge lineup of music and its usual bonanza of creative activities!
Whatever floats your musical boat, Shambala will be likely to have it going on, from jungle to folk, reggae to classical, this festival is a master in finding genius acts that challenge boundaries in terms of genre.
Stereo MCs with their original blend of hip-hop and electronica are 'headlining' (if there is such a word for a festival which assigns no hierarchy to its lineup).
Stanton Warriors will also be throwing some bass into the evenings' proceedings with a little help from Smash HiFi, who with Leeroy Thornhill (ex-Prodigy) are a must-see for us. DJ Storm who has represented the Metalheadz label before will be there along with jungle legend Aries. A guaranteed rave to remember coming right up!
If you're into reggae, you'll love Shambala. With names like The Beat, U-Roy and Mack-B bringing their beats and poignant political and spiritual messages to the show, the inner rasta in us all is sure to make an appearance. Head to see Benjamin Zephaniah and the Revolutionary Minds for a captivating social commentary delivered to dub.
Hitting the dancefloor on another scale, acts such as Ezra Collective and New York Brass Band are bringing a jazz and brass band feel to the festival. Abstract Orchestra have a really interesting sound too, fusing hip-hop with jazz, perfect for lounging in those hazy afternoons.
Big things are predicted from Kimyan Law who certainly doesn't define himself by any one genre in his beats, experimenting with a huge variety of difference sounds. We are also excited to see Tokio Myers who permeates his incredible piano skills with powerful bass lines. Both of these guys are definite ones to watch for the future!
Shambala as a festival places huge importance on its carbon footprint. This year they have brought out the 'Bring A Cup' campaign, promoting recycling and reusable hot drink cups. Together with their decision to continue being meat and fish-free as well as their general philosophy of encouraging discussion around the environment and sustainability, we think they are providing a great platform to fuel ideas for a more positive future for us all.
The organisers have certainly created a template on which all festivals should model themselves. With all sort of activities put on over the course of the festival, expect to see anything from Q&As, flashmobs, paddleboard yoga, anything could happen!
