She is Dee Scott

House | Saturday 21st September 2013 | Ewan

It’s not easy to make it big on today electronic music and DJing scene, especially in London. However, if that’s what you are passionate about you are bound to follow your dreams by producing and or mixing the tunes you are mad about.

One such young female who is very much becoming the DJ she had always dreamed of being is Dee Scott aka AFROpunk. Based in London, Dee has been producing and mixing tracks since she was young.

““i have been djing for 12 years since i was a baby, and producing and songwriting for even longer.. i have a studio that i have been building up over the last 8 years, i use a mixture of outboard and software .. logic pro ,reason and ableton are my sequencers of choice ,on stage I use pioneer 1000s /iPad/korg synth and any other gadgets ..” - www.iamdeescott.com

Clearly music is in Dee’s veins, she’s been hitting the London club scene by storm, playing at venues such as cobden club, 93 feet east, east village, the regent, 22 below, graphic bar, red bar , assembly (cape town) , kink (cape town)plus many more. Not only that, but her musical conquest has expanded to global scale as she has played overseas in countries like South Africa, Turkey, France and Cyprus. London however will always remain her home and base of operations.

From 2008-2010, Dee was Djing and remixing under the name AFROpunk which was her Electro alta-ego. During those years she toured, her AFROpunk stage show around Europe and South Africa. In 2010 she spent 7 weeks in cape town, performing at their biggest festival “SYNERGY” and one of their biggest clubs “THE ASSEMBLY” and also was a guest producer at the infamous “REDBULL STUDIOS CT” working with artist from SONY and UNIVERSAL records, securing  two official releases with the labels.

My first experience of Dee’s musical wizardry took place at Wonderland: Ladies Night! which is a cozy rave that has been putting on amazing nights in a variety of different venues. Usually the event is situated at Jacks Club, Crucifix Lane in London Bridge, however this iteration of Wonderland, a night that saw many guests (boys and girls) donning their best evening frocks and super-hero inspired costumes at the Bussy Building in Peckham Rye.

Dee Scott performed an absolutely smashing set, jam-packed with plenty of bass-laden dub inspired afro-beat tunes, funky house, electro and even a bit of Smack My Bitch Up for good measure. Whilst dancing my nut off, I couldn’t help but notice whilst watching Dee perform, that DJing and music is something she is very passionate about. If I could describe her performance in three words it would be: Atmosphere, Energy and Flow.
