#1 UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town
It is a city area which began to develop extensively since the Middle Ages and eventually has been surrounded by a defensive wall. With its twisting alleys of baroque and Gothic architecture, Renaissance-style castles and countless cafés, it’s easy to lose a day or two in the Old Town.
#2 Uzupis district
It is also a part of Old Town. A trendy area with it’s artist, squatter and young trendster residents that has a cool ambience. The area of town which mockingly declared its independence from the rest of Vilnius. They even have their own Constitution! Definitely worth walking around and exploring it’s little streets, bridges and monuments.
#3 Beer
It’s not only cheap, but Lithuanians are also known for producing one of the best beers in the world. The most popular brand is called ´Svyturys´ which means lighthouse. It has different varieties from light beer to a strong dark draught. If you want to try many varieties of beers, check out Alaus namai ( The house of beer) or Snekutis which offers a wide selection for a cheap price.
#4 Parks
Of all the Baltic capitals, Vilnius has the largest area of parkland. The newly rebuilt park Bernardinu sodas (Bernardin garden) has anauthenthic XIX century vibe. It is also in the heart of the city within a stones throw to the cathedral. The biggest is Vingis park where Lithuanians spend a lot of time chilling, having picnics and working out.
#5 Amber
It´s the country´s symbol and it´s used in the Lithuanian language for all sorts of reasons: people’s names, restaurants, hotels, festivals, museums and more. In Lithuania you will find shops everywhere that sell genuine Baltic amber in some form of jewelry, souvenirs, paintings, sculptures and even as art on furniture and wall coverings.
