Gigs To Take To The Sky On Virgin Planes
Making the hour and half journey from Heathrow to Edinburgh, you may not be expecting much more than a biscuit and a cup of tea if you're lucky. But this September, Virgin mogul Richard Branson is set to change all that by taking in-flight entertainment to a whole new level.
Virgin have announced that they will be hosting mini concerts on their new domestic airline Little Red. Branson intends to play homage to the Scotland and Manchester music scenes, the flights destinations, wishing to "shake up domestic flying in the UK" in the process.
Virgin celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and as Virgin Records is where it all began, this venture makes for the perfect tribute. Branson stated "This exciting series of events is the perfect way to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Virgin Records and the artists, from Mike Oldfield to Emeli Sandé, who continue to disrupt the status quo." Perhaps that's a slight hint at who passengers can expect to be hearing from?
You'll have to be lucky to be a part of this unique experience though. Gigs will be announced via. social media and passengers will be unaware that they're among the selected flights until they're high in the sky.
The famous airline has already been thinking outside the box when it comes to keeping their passengers entertained. Earlier this month, comedians on their way up to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival had the chance to practise their own material. With their audience held hostage, hopefully the comedians had them in stitches and not running to the nearest exit thousands of feet up in the air.
The intimate setting on the plane will make for an unforgettable experience for most, however, if you're not a fan of those on the bill and were planning on catching a quick nap before you land, all I can say is good luck!
