Look Out For Nick Monaco

House | Monday 5th August 2013 | jack

US Producer Nick Monaco Releases EP Veni Vidi Vogue On Airdrop.

Given all the current EDM hype, it can be easy to get carried away with artists like Jamie XX, Dusky, Fourtet etc. and forget to give a bit of attention to the constant waves of talent hailing from across the pond. One such name that seems to have effortlessly swanned his way to the forefront of the US house scene is San Fransisco based producer Nick Monaco.

Nick is a 90's kid by birth and by nature. His indulgence in the weird, funky and kitch translates to a relaxed and eclectic style of house music, with influences like Deee-Lite and Elliot Smith having an equal say in his own musical creation. Growing up in California’s Bay Area, Nick spent his younger years nurturing an obsession with music production, practising for five hours a day, until someone took notice.

That someone came in the form of DJ Qbert, who invited Nick to contribute to his instructional video ‘Scratchlopedia Breaktannica’. Since then Nick has been making a steady ascent up the EDM ladder, drawing the attention of Soul Clap who received a demo from the young producer in 2011. They were blown away by featured track ‘Set The Table’, and have since welcomed him into their family.

Following this, which we can consider to be his debut, Nick has announced the release of a new EP entitled Veni Vidi Vogue. The first track is a fun and stylish take on an 80's style Chicago house sound. Monaco fuses sharp pads, staccato vocals and a relaxed synth progression, displaying a mature palette whilst maintaining a cute 90's innocence that makes his style unique. 'Dance This Way' employs a deeper bass line and a splintered vocal sample giving the record an altogether more techy and repetitive edge. The final effort, 'Egypt Mocha Cappuccino Lacradasia Sunrise' takes the EP on another turn. With sexy, repetitive vocals, up-tempo pads and a flurry of stretched out chords, Nick creates a track that is both effortlessly stylish and club ready at the same time.

The EP has been released on Airdrop Records and can be found on their website. With this release it is clear that Nick has made the first steps towards carving himself a niche in the EDM world, and is certainly one to look out for in the future.
