RnB/Hip Hop | Thursday 19th April 2018 | Claire PAQUES

Kendrick Lamar just won a Pulitzer for his latest album, DAMN. Let’s first explain why it is a huge surprise. Journalism, poetry, history, biography, photography and more gave him the opportunity to get rewarded for his excellence with a Pulitzer.

It is such an honour to be decorated with a Pulitzer especially for a hip hop artist, it is because Kendrick is an artist who’s more engaged politically than he is socially.

Indeed, K.Dot is the first rapper to get one. What an important change for hip-hop, we’ve got here a sign of recognition in front of the world and it puts hip hop on an elevated and interesting artistic level, especially for those whom may not have given it its credit.

Kendrick now has the credit and attention that he deserves. Well, nearly. We’re still waiting for the To Pimp A Butterfly prize, which is literally the best album of Duckworth.

Catch up with DAMN:

On April 11, Lamar revealed that the title of the album is DAMN, the tracklist composed of fourteen titles, contains collaborations with singers Rihanna, U2 and Zacari.

DAMN. just like the other two previous opuses, reached first the Billboard 200, with 610,000 albums sold in the first week, including 353,000 from physical sales. the best so far in his career.
