DANNUNN on his crazy vibes, future album & 2018 goals

Drum and Bass | Monday 8th January 2018 | Patience

We touched down with emerging artist Dan Nunn whose about to come out in a big way, we catch up with the DJ to talk future goals, possible album and what makes him special.

Define yourself in 3 words?

Creative, realistic and reasonable.

Where are you from?

The UK but I grew up in Scotland in the hills and then High Wycombe in my teens where I started DJing and doing parties. Then I moved to London to see what all the fuss was about. What kind of genres did you listen to growing up? From soul to classical and rock to hip-hop. I’ve always tried to experience as much aspects of music as possible so your pot of knowledge has less limitations.

So what does your name mean?

DANNUNN is my name Dan Nunn, which makes sense. Also, it's onomatopoeic, just think Pink Panther...

What do you call your sound?

That’s a very good question!! Because it’s a highly influenced sound from all genres, I find it hard to define myself. All I know is I have to find a synergy between different styles and make them work together in harmony instead of a train wreck so I guess wreckless music.

Where do you get those crazy ass basslines from?

Listen to the old jungle and early grime music and some of the old hip hop from back in the day...Low End Theory… and then you’ll know why.

Whose influenced your crazy vibes?

Jazz artists and DJ’s who pushed the envelope open and wider like Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, D-Styles, 16 Bit, J Dilla, Flying Lotus, DJ Premier. Also, a lot of MC’s have helped me understand flow like Big L, B.I.G, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop, MF Doom, Madlib, and especially Dr Octagon.

So what do you bring that's special?

I wanna bring life back to music.

How long is it going to take you to finish your album?

There’s a lot going on musically, production-wise, and I just would like it be made in its due natural course.

What are you most in love with right now?

Life.

What would you do to make the world a better place?

Keep making music with a smile.

So what ideas changed your life?

Once you realise you can put your mind to things and they get done then you can start to realise you can achieve more than you thought. Give yourself a break and time and it will happen.

What would you fill a swimming pool with if it could be anything?

Gold, so I can buy some Bitcoins.

What's next for you in 2018?

Festivals and more gigs!
