Matador on why he loves Dam

House | Tuesday 11th April 2017 | Arren

Amsterdam, according to Matador.

The Dutch capital is a city that has got it going on. It's relaxed lifestyle, beautiful architecture and robust night life pulls punters from across the globe to the small city every year. The city delievers tonnes of big festivals and club events throughout the year, seeing the world top talents touching down at least once a year.

One such artist is Irish techno steward, Matador. The Rukas boss is no stranger to Dam, being a regular on line ups at the cities festivals and clubs for years. 2017 is no different with Dublin based techno artist performing at both Dockyard and Awakenings festivals.

In light of his appearences in the city, Matador wanted to share what it is that he loves about Dam.

What's your favourite place to eat?
Has to be De Kas, I like to eat there a couple of times per year. Super fresh, seasonal produce, with a lot of it grown on site.

What's your favourite venue in the city?
I've had some incredible experiences in the Gashouder over the years, the acoustics in that main room are like nothing else.

What do you like about the crowds in Amsterdam?
The diversity of the crowd, such a broad range of age, nationality and personality, the perfect mix for a party.

Best set you've seen during ADE?
Richie Hawtin's live show last year at the Mediahaven was quite the spectacle, a very memorable set for me. Everyone was transfixed. It was a full-on AV experience.

What's your best moment in Amsterdam so far?
Closing Loveland Live at Mediahaven on New Years Day a couple of years ago. That was such an amazing show.

What does Amsterdam do differently that other places should try?
A genuinely more relaxed approach to letting go and enjoying life. The Dutch and the Irish are quite similar in their pursuit of having a good time - maybe that's why I enjoy my sets there so much. And of course, Amsterdam does know how to put on a great summer festival.
