Friday 22nd April 2016 | Tom
Today is the 46th Earth Day. Don’t know what Earth Day is? Let us explain.
When is it?
22nd of April, 2016. It falls on this date because the organisers wanted a date that meant as many people could turn up as possible, the 22nd of April doesn’t clash with other holidays or exams.
What is Earth Day?
Started in the USA, Earth Day is a day celebrating the environment and of course, The Earth!
Why is Earth Day 2016 different?
This Friday leaders from 160 countries will officially sign the Paris Climate Agreement. The agreement is aimed at fighting global warming, making the day even more special.
The Agreement keeps global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius and will ensure developed countries provide £70bn worth of funds to help developing countries reach this goal by 2020.
Celebrities that support Earth Day includes…
Leonardo DiCaprio, Emma Watson, Russell Simmons and Chevy Chase are some of the many famous faces that have brought attention to the Earth Day party!
How can you take part?
The easiest way you can take part is to do the things you would normally do! Recycle, take public transport, plant a tree, just generally be green! If you fail to do that then have a few drinks in the name of Earth Day, it’s a Friday after all.
Here's some MJ to remind us of the importance of looking after environment.
