Has Hip Hop lost its way?

RnB/Hip Hop | Friday 24th July 2015 | Annalisa

Hip Hop is at its most commercial high, but the roots of social committment from which it started are hard to find nowadays.

Music is indeed one of the most effective ways to spread social issues knowledge in the modern world. Chuck D of Public Enemy once referred to Rap as "the CNN of black people". Musicians do have the power to change the world.

With so many injustices happening every day, one thing the Nation of Islam representers asked themselves is why Hip Hop seems to have lost its initial indignation towards social issues. Or hasn't it?

A musically involved, market aware board has been called together to discuss the matter tonight at 7 pm in Brixton. DJ279, DJ WONDAH, Oshi OkomiloVincent Olutayo and many others will be giving an inside view on what Hip Hop has or should become.

Minister Farrakhan's movement stated that with so many well-known, important voices singing their way on the scenes, one would expect them to take serious positions about social injustices and issues. It has never been only about the bling: music has starred free-thinking from Lauryn Hill to Bob Dylan. This is why today's world we expect a major committment from Hip Hop artists, and the Nation of Islam wants to make it loud and clear.

Join us tonight if you want to find out more about music nowadays and why it can be considered the most useful form of social action.
