Waze and Odyssey: Re-doing House Music !

Waze and Odyssey broke through in 2012 with their smash hit remix of R Kelly’s remix of ‘Bump n Grind’ which left people scratching their head wondering just who they were. Dubbed as one of the breakthrough artists of 2013 they are set to keep the house scene feeling fresh.
Considering they only burst onto the scene in 2012 with their release ‘Ah Baby (Here we go Again)’ their rise has been meteoric to say the least. Real names Serge Santiago and Firas Waez, the duo's success is also reflected by the formation of their new W and O label. It has been claimed that pair are focussed on a scene which is moving away from traditional house music and bringing back 90’s dance. This claim fits in well with their back story about being a couple of garage artists on Miami. However just like their music the pair surprised us claiming that was fake and that they actually reside and are from London.
In recent years the infamous ‘Boiler Room’ sets have given the hottest new artists opportunity to bring their best DJing ability to secret locations all over Europe. Waze and Odyssey were given that pleasure and it’s safe to say they established that they were very much a front runner of their genre. Playing in Berlin the duo produced exactly what the crowd wanted to here and funky disco styled house kept punters dancing for the whole hour set.
It’s difficult even for the house enthusiast to put their finger on where the duo will take their sound. The artists themselves even claim that every song they put out is influenced by their previous record. When asked about their style they said ‘We think we have our own sound and we’ll let it decide where it goes’. As the next wave of British producers hits the scene it’s not rare to see collaborations. On their newly formed W and O label they released Ejeca’s ‘Night Rays’ and a remix they did of one of Ejeca’s songs. One thing common in all of Waze and Odyssey’s music is the pulsating energy that flows through the songs. Whenever they get asked how they met the duo always come up with different answers and it seems this reflects in their music whereby its creation comes from the musical place either one of them is in at the time.
It seems Waze and Odyssey have a genuine passion for the music they make and use it to fuel their energetic approach to a new wave of house. They claim "When you write what you love production is easy, there’s no pressure, pressure slows you down. But we’ve both been around the block a couple of times and tasted failure and used that to work out what we’re doing this time". The claim seems to suggest that it hasn’t been plain sailing however they refuse to look backwards and with this positivity keep churning out what they do best.
In an era of digital downloads it seems odd that the pair’s label only release vinyl. In their own words they claim to create ‘real house music with real artists’ and that’s just what they do so well. The boys are passionate about the music they put out they want it to be authentic and it’s authenticity and raw love of house which sees them scaling new heights every time they hit the decks.
