Mixtape Review: Birdman and Rick Ross – “The H: The Lost Album Vol. 1”
RnB/Hip Hop |
Monday 3rd June 2013 | Vinay
The story starts off with the head honchos of Cash Money (Birdman) and Maybach Music Group (Rick Ross) collaborating in 2008. This 10-day collaboration led to the creation of 40 songs. Their music was then left to marinate for five years whilst they were developing other projects. Now they have collectively decided to exclusively share their music with the people at Datpiff for them to share with the public.
The mixtape starts off with the track ‘Flashy Cars, Movie Stars’ which kicks of with a motivational speech from Birdman using the soundtrack of ‘The Great Dictator’ by Charlie Chaplin. Then the tempo completely flips into a high-octane track that encapsulates their trill, luxury lifestyle.
The production on “The H” is outstanding to a point where it even overshadows the lyricism. The track “Pop That Pussy” rolls out some heavy beats and has a catchy hook but one listen is more than enough as the lyrics are rather unexciting. “Why” has a great melody blended in with crisp drum beats. For me the track “Addicted” sums up the album. The song is well produced and the hook is very catchy but the lyrics in the song seem a bit lacklustre and make me wonder if these two been hustling so hard to make money that their lyrical ability has gone into recession?
This is not likely to be the last collaboration we see from Birdman and Rick Ross as the album is entitled “Volume 1” but lets hope that the next instalment is more exciting. Check out the mixtape on the following link:
