Jon Hopkins - Open Eye Signal (Nosaj Thing remix)
Wednesday 8th May 2013 | Amanda
Without even knowing it, most people in the UK - we can even say in the world I guess - know about Jon Hopkins's work. Indeed He worked on Coldplay's Viva La Vida album, actually the intro of the song Life in Technicolor is an extract of one of his very own tracks, Light Through the Veins.
I like to play it all know-it-all with music but the fact is that I am one of those people who discovered him via the Team Martin. Still better than never!
Floating somewhere between ambient, D&B, Minimal and Trip Hop, Hopkins is not some other DJ from South London (as good as most of them are!). He is a composer. There is an edge to his music that goes beyond the appeal of regular tracks, it's like they enlight something, make something alive. Thus, it does make sense that he found himself composing a movie soundtrack: 2010's thriller Monsters.
His last single, Open Eye Signal, is a Tech-Minimal trip that generate extasy among electro music lovers who handle getting lost on an 8 minutes tune.
Good news of the day is that our beloved Nosaj Thing took on the work of remixing the already fantastic track, and it's GOOD.
The track is free for download at the moment, jump on it before it's too late!
