Annual Festival Date: Sonar Festival
Wednesday 24th April 2013 | Maria
Every year, for three days and three nights, Barcelona turns into the capital city of music hosting more than 80,000 attendees. Since 1994, Sonar Festival has been responsible of uniting some of the most relevant singers and DJs into one exclusive line up. This year Skrillex, Pet Shop Boys, Diplo or Major Lazer are the chosen ones to keep you awake for an electric and unforgettable night. Two Door Cinema Club or Bat for Lashes will take you to a more indie-esque atmosphere. This is verified with reviews from international papers and magazines including The Guardian and Le Monde. It is mainly a pioneering event that is trying to send its culture throughout the world with 40 concerts in countries such as Reykjavik and Tokyo.
Officially called the Barcelona International Festival of Advanced Music and New Media Art, it is progressive scenario dealing not only with music but also with film that will make you feel like you stepped up into a futuristic era. Sonar tries to be innovative from their showcases to their music program. It features not only acclaimed artists but also experimental and soon-to-be music legends. One of the highly expected artists this edition is the father of Harlem Shake, Baauer. With his debut track transformed into not only a worldwide hit but also into a worldwide trend with the epileptic dance that has been invading YouTube since last year. Now imagine a massive Harlem Shake made in Barcelona? Definitely one of the many reasons you have to attend Sonar this year.
Whether you are into the electronic and indie night life of Barcelona or you want to get a better approach of the Spanish eclectic culture scene mixed with international bits, you get both atmospheres. Sonar By Day brings you live concerts, workshops, art shows and SonarCinema while Sonar By Night offers four different venues where the main concerts and live DJ sets will take place. There is no reason why not to go to one of the most unique Festivals in Spain, in Europe and in the entire world. See you there this summer!
