Spring's No-Nonsense Style Guide, by Trudie Carter-Pavelin
After what feels like centuries of woolly tights, ringing ears and copious amounts of chapstick, summer is making a tentative arrival. It's time to pick up those S/S trend guides you dismissed two months ago and take notice, and maybe a frantic trip to H&M. Monochrome, vibrant stripes and cut-out panels are all new in this season.
The budgeter's choice:
At £22, this Topshop crop top doesn't scream 'bargain!!' However, it ticks several trend boxes in one, including the cut-out front panel and glaring monochrome print. Pair it with black skinnies, bleached denim cut-offs or well...just about anything.
The quirky:
Cutlottes/bermuda shorts are big this season. Think 18th century French men (mmmm right?!) frolicking about the flower-studded countryside. Potential one-off wear (when the sun goes to your head) but at least you'll be comfortable in this loose-fitting Uniqlo offering, designed by Celia Burtwell. The epitome of English twee.
The pretty:
A friend of mine works at H&M and swears she sold ten in an hour. Floaty, light and versatile. Okay, you won't look like Daphne Groeneveld as such, but at a lowly £14 it's a winner.
The shoe:
Think more foot than shoe, think wood-effect leather. Think lace-ups taken to a whole new level. Preferably with noticeable stitiching. Do batttle in the office in this glamorous gladiator shoe, courtesy of Office.
