Boston marathon explosions shock world; London Marathon to go ahead
Tuesday 16th April 2013 | Osh
Two explosions attacked the Boston Marathon yesterday, killing at least three people, including an 8-year-old boy who was there to watch his father run, and leaving over a hundred others injured.
The first explosion went off near the race’s finish line, with the second happening a few seconds later. It is reported that the explosion went off around 4 hours after the race began, at a time where most participants were just reaching the finish line and families and friends were gathering around to cheer for them. Eyewitnesses reported that the scene was chaotic and grisly, with victims losing their limbs to the explosions.
Officials say that the police are guarding a possible suspect who is currently wounded and being treated in a Boston hospital. Boston remains under high alert, while police presence has increased in other heavily populated areas such as New York and Washington D.C.
Following this incident, British police are currently reviewing security arrangements for Sunday’s London Marathon. However, sports minister Hugh Robertson has said that the Marathon will go ahead as planned, stating “I think this is one of those incidents where the best way to show solidarity with Boston is to continue and send a very clear message to those responsible”.
A video of the explosion filmed by one of the participants has surfaced, which you can check out below:
