Joe Budden XOYO *Review*

Sunday 31st March 2013 | Anisay

Hip Hop connoisseur, Love and hip hop star and certified player, we could only be talking about one man, Mr Joe Budden. He recently smashed his Gig at the trendy XOYO in Shoreditch which left his hard core hip hop fans and Love and hip hop groupies fully satisfied.

The show was hosted by Remel London and Sum Like It Live, with some major UK supporting talent including Brixton born singer Tanika. Although probably not the first person you would think of to support such a hard core rapper, she tore up the stage with her faultless vocals and sultry aura. She took the crowd from the streets to the bedroom and had even the hardest goons reflecting on that special or not so special someone in their life. She interacted well with the crowd and spoke about her ‘Dead Ex’ who inspired her song “Blood from a stone”.  Black the Ripper and Dot Rotten also gave passionate and encapsulating performance’s which got the crowd hyped before Joe Budden hit the stage.

After what felt like an eternity waiting for Joe to come on stage, he finally made an appearance with a gang of people behind him, including his current girlfriend Kaylin Garcia, who like Joe seemed to have just rolled out of bed with a very blasé tracksuit on. Despite the fact that much of his lyrical content involves other women she sat on stage throughout the whole show to support her man.

Much like Tanika, once Joe Budden hit the stage he had no problems letting his fans into his personal life and spoke about the altercation he had the day before with Love and Hip Hop co star Consequence, which prompted the crowd to start yelling “F’ Consequence”.  It was surprising to me that Joe even mentioned Love and Hip Hop, I always had him down for a more serious artist but once he got settled and I saw the crowds reactions I realised he is defiantly about his music, he performed song after song and touched every emotion which left the crowd very engaged. The night proved Joe Budden’s candor approach to music, and life it seems, is sometimes overwhelming but always entertaining.
