Headz @ Fabric: That Mercury Gon' Rise!
Hear ye, hear ye! Shine up your gold teeth and oil up your crankshafts people ‘cos Christmas just got a whole lot more metallic. Metallic-er, if you will. But we’re not talking heavy metal; just downright disgustingly rolling drums and bass.
Yes, that’s right. The titanic label that is Metalheadz, or ‘Headz’ for those who are too busy to pronounce all 3 syllables, is descending on London for a pre-Chrimbo banger harder than a 36-hour shift down in a tin mine in Bolivia. And the cast iron line-up they’ve assembled looks set to tear its way through some Fabric and galvanise the dancefloor nicely.
Enough puns already? Well, unfortunately, Zinc is not playing (last one, honest), but, fear not, as top of the bill are Virus head honchos and occasional Headz collaborators Ed Rush & Optical and the boy with the booming speakers: the one like the mighty Dillinja. The angels are going to fall.
Representing the new Metalheadz producer-DJ coterie will be the über-talented Jubei, backed up by the youngster, er, Youngsta... and an undercard full of rising stars and industry bigwigs including Lenzman, Ulterior Motive and Dispatch Recordings top-dog Ant TC1. In fact, the genuinely legendary Room 2 of Fabric will be hosting more bosses that night than a Starbucks international AGM in Boston. On the night, the mic will be in the capable hands of GQ, SP and, bucking the 2-letter name trend, MC Justyce.
Over in Room 1 dubstep will be the order of the night, with the cockney thug-sampling dub hero Caspa ready to get you skanking to the sound of Alan Ford’s voice, Catchphrase buzzers and some very naughty beats and b-lines. One time D&Ber, now D-stepper, Breakage should also not be missed if you can tear yourself away from Room 2 for an hour or two. I know it won’t be easy. Dub Police have put together one hell of a dubstep roster for their Red Planet album launch party. Make sure you show your support.
Mellowing things out in Room 3 will be Scratch Perverts’ Mr Thing with CJ Beatz, Spin Doctor and Juicy DJs, souling out the rave with their funky, hip-hoppy vibage, with Prankster on a hosting tip.
So if you’re looking to steel yourself (sorry, I couldn’t help myself) for the impending Apocalypse, surely the underground bunker that is Fabric would be a good choice, no? See you there.
