Single of the Week: Scuba - Talk Torque

Wednesday 31st October 2012 | Tom

I personally have been waiting for this release for a while given I've heard it both times I have seen Scuba in the last couple of months. Released yesterday, 'Talk Torque' further demonstrates Scuba’s shift from his dubstep roots, to the more Berlin influenced house sound that he has embraced since moving to the German capital. You can certainly hear that this is a Scuba track, given that it encapsulates features that have become synonymous with his recent releases- catchy vocal samples, big bass sounds balanced out to perfection with little percussive claps, and catchy, yet simple synth lines, that somehow manage to effectively juggle sounding dark, yet remarkably uplifting at the same time. There are definitely elements of 2011’s  'Adrenalin', Scuba’s massive hit taken from the E.P. of the same name, in this latest release, but ‘Talk Torque’ delivers these elements in a heavier way that consequently results in a song that is much more suitable for the club environment, something replicated in Scuba’s other recent release ‘NE1BUTU’. Unsurprisingly, the song is brilliantly produced and it is testament to his production skills that he is successfully defining his own fresh sound, something that so often seems to sadly go by the wayside in today’s overly flooded dance music market. All in all, this is a release that further reinstates Scuba as one of the forerunners in the Techno/Bass scene and I personally cannot wait to hear it on a giant sound system again soon, as this is surely where releases like this belong. Catch Scuba debuting his live set in London this weekend (Saturday 3rd November) at the Hotflush Warehouse Party, alongside a picking of Hotflush Recording's best artists, including George Fitzgerald and Locked Groove.
