The girl band recently launched their End of Daze EP, which has charmed the critics
Maybe the name Dum Dum Girls rings a bell, or maybe not, but for four years these girls have been building a big reputation in the indie world. Led by Dee Dee Penny, the Californian band have been evolving with each of their works, exploring genres such as punk, surf, noise and indie-pop, but always giving something original and personal.
With their new EP, End of Daze, they proved once more that they deserve to be followed -on Twitter or wherever they go. Pitchfork said about Dee Dee: “Dum Dum Girls' leader is gradually transforming into a masterful rock songwriter and potential real-deal rock star”. Other critics said that the EP is full of “raw emotion and musicality” and that it’s “the most powerful moments of their career thus far”.
The five song EP, which includes four original tracks and a cover of Strawberry Switchblade’s ‘Trees and Flowers’, was produced by Sune Rose Wagner (The Raveonettes) and Richard Gottehrer. ‘Lord Knows’ is the first single, which came with a video directed by Christin Turner, who also directed Dum Dum Girls’ ‘He gets me high’, ‘Jail la la’ and ‘Bhang bhang I'm a burnout’. Dee Dee plays the main character in this -kind of religious- ritual, accompanied by Jules, Sandy and the new band’s bassist, Malia James.
