Old school Def Squad rapper Keith Murray is in London this month, so we had to catch up with the man behind the ‘The Most Beautifullest Thing In This World’.
How does it feel to the most beautifulest vocabalist?!
It feels good because nobody has done it like me since i came out and people really support what I'm doing.
I hear your uncle done some body guarding and he got you to spit with Big Daddy Kane- is that right?
Yeah may he rest in peace my uncle born true from Brooklyn
You have always been known as a vocabalist and you got a crazy voice- are there any rappers that are like that for you?
Well i think everybodies got a unique voice but none of them flip vocab lately its just been the same type of rapping going on.I've been doing a lot of shows around the world,gearing up to come out with a new album.
You came up in the 90′s, what a lot of people call the ‘Golden Era’ for Hip Hop, how do you feel the hip hop scene has changed since you started out?
I feel that hip hop has changed in the face that more people are doing it and the Internet has given people the opportunity to show case themselves without a label and the beats are my electronic now.
Are there any new artists from New York that you think are heading for big things, or at least deserve to?
There are a lot of rappers coming up via the Internet from New York like Fred the God Son Mysone Cory Guns and my lil brother Dmurray
What advice would you offer to aspiring rappers?
I just tell new artists to stay original and be real if you didn't do some thing or didn't live a life of the streets don't say it just keep it real.
What was it like working with Redman and Eric Sermon?
Working with Erick and Red Man was the best thing for me being so young and having them around showed me how to work in the studio and how to be a great live performer.
When will you be working with Eric Sermon next?
ll be working with Erick Sermon on my next album called THE BEAUTY OF IT ALL coming out the top of the year.
You still hanging with the Def squad?
Yeah i still roll with the Def squad!
You managed to turn your prison time into a positive- have you any advice on how others can do this?
I turned my prison time into a positive by knowing i didn't do anything, I've been through worse things in life and i wont let nothing break my positive spirit its just the way i was brought up.
Pizza is a staple in New York so what is your favourite pizza topping?
Pizza-i like everything on it but its gotta be pork!
Would be great to catch up with you at your show at Plan B on 24th November-could we do a bit of filming on the night?
I would love for y’all to film my show to let the world see how hard i work and the way i stage dive i love performing.
If you could give one piece of advice to the world what would it be?
My advice to the world would be spread love not war, go after your dreams and don't hate on the next person striving to do there thing.
Have you any new music coming out?
Yes i have new music coming out i got a new single called Strange Encounters about to be released and a new album called THE BEAUTY OF IT ALL coming to you soon.
Whats big on the horizon for Keith Murray?
Whats new on the horizon for me is selling new music, acting in movies and touring the world. Giving hope to the underprivileged people who don't have hope to live life, if i can do it anybody can.
