A girl’s sixteen birthday party turns into Project X

We all want our birthday to be a special occasion, especially if we are teenagers who care too much for being popular, and it’s such a crucial event as our sweet sixteen. We want a party at the high of the MTV reality show one -with the exception of people pretending to be our friends just to appear on TV. The more the better they say, right? Well, I think that quote doesn’t work for all cases…
There was this girl in Haren, Netherlands, who was organizing her birthday party, and to prove she’s really into new technology, she decided to invite people through Facebook -the cards with “I invite you to my birthday” stuff, are too childish, she must think. So she got into Facebook and created an event, but her mistake came when she forgot something apparently without importance but that had catastrophic consequences, to set the event to private.
She probably made such an effort to make the event cool, that 3,000 youngsters, who didn’t know her at all, decided to pop up. Many event organizers must take advice from her and get to know her secret to unite such a big crowd. Does she look like Megan Fox? Did she offer a free bar all night? Was Lady Gaga performing at the party? We still don’t know what made all those people choose this event to get together and blow up the poor girl’s party.
They saw it coming though; the attendance was growing and growing until reaching the 10,000 mark. Police explained: “She posted the invitation on Facebook and sent it to friends, who then sent it to other friends and soon it spread like wildfire across the internet”. The girl must think it was wicked to be the host of the event of the year, but maybe her house was too small to fit almost half of her small town’s population inside. And her parents would be disappointed the next day if the house looked messy and some objects accidentally get broken, so she had to cancel the party and the police advised the family to get out of the house, as their address was in the invite, but it was too late, so rude to cancel a party at such short notice. So 3,000 turned up anyway.
Revelers went crazy. Maybe they got disappointed because the party was not what they expected. We all know this feeling when you travel from far to have an amazing night and then you arrive at the place and the music is crap and people there don´t look too cool, or Lady Gaga decided not to turn up in the end. So the crowd went mad and started to demonstrate their anger with the police, pelting them with bottles and stones, as well as flower pots - even bicycles, and smashing everything that was in front of them, looting shops, setting cars on fire and the shy ones damagied street signs and lamp-posts.
The party ended up with 34 detentions and 29 wounded people. Apparently the attenders wanted to perform a remake of the film Project X, about a party that goes out of control. Kind of Skins parties style. Well, thank God they didn't decide to recreate The Hunger Games!
