The artist criticizes the exaggerated patriotism of the Olympics and compares the effect of the event to the Nazi Germany.
First it was the last year's royal wedding and then the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Now, Morrissey returns striking the Olympics. A few days ago, Morrissey published an open letter in his fansite True to you attacking the "blustering jingoism” that drenches the Olympic Games. According to The Smiths’ leader, the enthusiasm for the Olympics is reminiscent of the "spirit of 1939 Germany" that “now pervades throughout media-brand Britain”. These declarations come just a week after he criticized the Olympics on stage in Manchester, it seems for not including The Smiths during the opening ceremony.
