Circus Records Bring Out ‘Mr Mongoose’s Fantastic Weekend EP’
Tuesday 12th June 2012 | Osh
This new five song EP is jam packed with massive names and huge bass. It also has a crazy name to boot. ‘Mr Mongoose’s Fantastic Weekend EP’ has a sound that’s not exactly what fans have come to expect from Circus Records with each of the tracks sitting between 100-112 bpm. Elements of glitch hop, drumstep, moombahton and even house are present throughout. Straying away from straight up dubstep, this EP presents these artists exploring new sounds and genres. It’s something fans must check out.
Opening Track ‘Music Is Dead’ is a collaboration between heavy weight producers Doctor P and Dillon Francis. It’s a humorous stab at the current state of the music industry. With a moombahton structure and beat but featuring a lot of dubstep elements such as wobble synths and loads of bass, it’s quite easy to pick out the input each artist added to this up-tempo jam, making it even more fun to listen to.
The second track by Funtcase seems a real wild card from the man behind ’50 Calibre’, but who doesn’t love a wildcard? Here Funtcase shows off his awesome production skills by adding a dubstep/house vibe with the track ‘Voodew’. It’s a sound that seems less heavy hitting then most other Funtcase material, but nonetheless remaining a certified tune.
Figure, one of the leaders in drumstep, supplies the EP with the third track ‘What Do You Need?’. Again with a house meets dubstep vibe, this track features those blip sounds more stereotypical to electro house. It’s a track that’s most suited to blasting in a souped out Mitsubishi as you drift the streets of Tokyo.
Fourth Track ‘Grindhouse’ by 501 brings out 501’s signature sound. The most commercial song on the EP, it features synths typical of a Circus track with a cheesey vocal sample. ‘Grindhouse’ is catchy and sure to get floors moving however this sound is quickly becoming highly over done.
The EP ends with a bang. The final track ‘How I Feel’ comes from Essex boys Brown & Gammon. Bringing a standard moombahton vibe then going ape with it. This track is absolutely massive featuring epic vocals, a great beat and dirty synths. It’s a perfect track for summer clubbing. When it's played 'How I Feel' just forces you to move.
This is a great release from Circus Records. All five songs on this EP are sure to fire up any crowd this summer. Check out ‘Mr Mongoose’s Fantastic Weekend EP’ out now on Circus Records.
