DIAMOND JUBILEE SPECTACULAR!
Wednesday 6th June 2012 | Osh
The epic diamond jubilee celebrations this weekend are sure to be talked about for many weeks to come.
Despite the torrential weather in London over the weekend which threatened to ruin both the river pageant on sunday and the RAF fly over at Buckingham palace on Tuesday, the brits were out in force to celebrate the 60 year reign of their Queen.
On Sunday (3rd June) her majesty was out on the Thames aboard The Spirit of Chartwell to salute the 1000 boat flotilla which started their journey at Battersea and ended at Tower Bridge. Londoners descended in their thousands to the banks of the Thames to try and catch a glimpse of the boats. With tube and train stations unable to cope with the sheer volume of people in central London on Sunday, passengers faced long travel times back home.
Unfazed by the terrible weather and disorganised travel situation, Londeners were back out on monday for the jubilee concert and numerous street parties held in and around the capital.
A star from every decade of the Queens reign descended to Buckingham palace for a spectacular one off concert.
Spectators who won tickets in a lottery enjoyed the sounds of Annie Lennox, Sir Tom Jones, Jessie J and Madness to name a few. The concert which was organised and hosted by Takethat frontman Gary Barlow was watched by a massive 17 million people countrywide with more than 70,000 people gathering on the Mall to watch on numerous big screens that had been provided.
The concert finished with a huge finale and diamond themed fireworks display off the top of the palace, the prince of Wales took to the stage to thank the public for their support, he described the family as deeply humbled by the turnout and effort made over the weekend.
Her majesty wrapped up the week-end yesterday with an obligatory wave off the balcony of Buckingham palace to the thousands that turned up on the Mall in hope of catching a glimpse of the royal family.
Overall the weekend has been one to remember. The atmosphere in London has been second to none and has been a brilliant way to kick off this huge summer for the UK.
