Respecting An Accomplishment

RnB/Hip Hop | Monday 28th May 2012 | Osh

When you’re walking through the streets of London whether on a night out or scanning the shops during the day, bear in mind that these cracked pavement slabs are the very same ones that some of the UK’s famous grime artists that broke through from pirate radio stations and into the mainstream market have treaded upon.

Tinchy Stryder started out in Shoreditch his home town before he hit mainstream. Tunes like ‘Mainstream Money’ and ‘Something About Your Smile’ were the last few underground tunes before his merger into the mainstream market. When you’re around Shoreditch remember that he came from there and if that’s not incentive enough to realise the possibilities out there, remember he’s not the only one that broke out from underground and not only into mainstream but also America.

An alternative band, N-Dubz came from Camden, North West London. Do you remember their tunes when they were on the pirate radio stations? Some of their best! Tunes like ‘I Swear’ and ‘Feva Las Vegas’ were going around a few years ago and they got so much attention that it propelled them to reorganisation from a wider audience and allowed them to grow in every aspect of music. They make their own beats and lyrics and this shows originality throughout. Even though they’ve separated at the moment, this doesn’t deny that we need to respect an accomplishment. Go to Camden Market and check out the places they occupied daily.

Artists originating from London can also be seen as bringing an alternative form of music through the sounds of the UK garage scene and separating into grime. These artists are so big now that they perform at a variety of festivals, from the Isle of Wight and o2’s Wireless festival to the club bangers in Ibiza. Don’t miss out on the chance to be a part of the music and start hitting up these places.
