The All New Leicester Square

Thursday 24th May 2012 | Osh

The re-development of one of Londons most iconic landmarks has recently been completed ahead of the Olympic games. Leicster square has undergone a massive regeneration programme that has taken over a year to complete.

With over half a million people walking through the square on a daily basis it was was important that the construction company SIAC completed the work on time. The chairman of SIAC said 'This was a complex and difficult challenge with unique challanges and i was delighted it was finished on time, moving equipment and machinery in and out of the square when it was busy, presented challenges in itself.'

The 15.3 million pound transformation has involved 150,000 granite blocks of all different shapes and sizes, they have replaced every paving stone in the square and created a 'ribbon' seating area in white granite.

Alcohol and ball games have been banned in the central garden that will be locked every evening. TV crews that cover the numerous film premiers that take place in the square will make use of underground cables and plugs to prevent satellite trucks entering the refurbished area.

Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron will be expected shortly for the premiere of Prometheus.
