BBC GO FOR GOLD AT ANNUAL SONY AWARDS.

The biggest night in the radio calendar took place last night and saw individuals such as Chris Evans and Fearne Cotton receive gold awards for their BBC radio shows.
The BBC as a whole took away 22 Gold awards with commercial stations such as Smooth and Absolute Radio claiming the other 13.
The annual event, hailed the ultimate awards ceremony for radio took place at Grosvenor House in London, Paloma Faith, Rita Ora and Jessie J were among the stars that attended the event, performers included Jessie J and Takethat front man Gary Barlow.
The station of the year award was clinched by BBC 6 music; they became the first digital only service to win the prestigious award. BBC 6 music was launched on the 11th March 2002 and was the first international music radio station to be launched by the BBC in 32 years. BBC 6 music is known for playing a more eclectic selection of music compared with BBC Radio stations 1 and 2.
The judges comment on BBC 6’s win was ‘They showed confidence across their schedule, an understanding of their audience and a passion for music’.
