Blind Writer Didn’t Realise Pen Had Run Out

Friday 13th April 2012 | Osh

Police officers have used forensic techniques to recover the author’s work, after her pen stopped working.

Trish Vickers, 59 lost her sight 7 years ago through diabetes and decided to write a book to keep her active.  She was devastated to learn that the first 26 pages were blank after she asked her son Simon to read the opening chapters back to her.

Amazingly, the manuscript was recovered when forensic experts worked in their spare time to read the indentations using a system of lights.

It took five months of hard work, but the team were able to save the whole text and said they couldn’t wait to see the rest as they thoroughly enjoyed it.

Mrs Vickers from Charmouth now intends to complete the novel, called Grannifer’s Legacy.

She rang the police and asked to speak to their fingerprint section.  She said “I am so happy, pleased and grateful.”
