Raf Simons named at Dior

Dior turns to Raf Simons. Following the firing of John Galliano last year, the French label Dior switches for a low-key personality.
The Belgian designer was named late on Monday as the new artistic director of Christian Dior. The post left empty, more than a year since the dramatic departure of John Galliano in March 2011 after he made anti-Semitic remarks.
Marc Jacobs, considered as favourite until talks failed this summer according to a compensation problem and Alber Elbaz of Lanvin was approached and rejected by Dior and LVMH’s advances.
The designer, who left his post as creative director of Jil Sander in February, will show his first collection for Dior during Couture Week in July. Simons is only the sixth designer to helm Christian Dior - following the founder, Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, and John Galliano in the role. Named as artistic director, Raf Simons will be in charge of the Couture collection, as well as the women ready-to-wear and accessories lines.
