Bruce Springsteen: Pop Music Is At War

Friday 16th March 2012 | Osh

The musician gave an inspiring speech and said that people in pop ‘hardly agree on anything’ anymore.

Bruce insisted that the breadth of contemporary pop music makes it difficult to define the genre.  He talked about the technological changes that have graced musical production.  However the 62 year old said that what has always remained the same is the formula of success.

‘There is no right way, no pure way of doing it.  There is just doing it.  We live in a post authentic world.  Today authenticity is a house of mirrors.  It’s all about what you’re bringing when the lights go down, it’s your teachers, your influences, your personal history.  At the end of the day it’s the power and the purpose of your music that still matters.’

He does not think that music is confined to guitars, tubes, turntables or microchips.  He said that the genesis and the power of creativity continues to prevail and has been consistent over the years.
