A video released by Invisible Children, a non profit charity whose mission is to help raise awareness of the Invisible Children of Uganda, went viral yesterday. The story began when three young American film makers went to Uganda to volunteer in search of a story and found something bigger than themselves. A devastating situation in Uganda, they found a war of conflict and in the middle of it were children who are being kidnapped to be forced into becoming child soldiers. The women and girls are beaten, raped and turned into sex slaves. The people responsible for these kidnappings are Lord’s Resistance Army, and their leader, Joseph Kony.
Kony and the LRA abducted more than 30,000 children in northern Uganda. The mission today is to make Joseph Kony famous so everyone around the world knows what he is doing and stop him. With 2012 being ‘the year of change’, people have to take a stand and put pressure on the government to start doing something to help these children. As a human race, we should perhaps help each other to stop the fighting and show love and empathy. This has already started with people sharing the video and reaching out to celebrities to help spread the word and support. 20th April is the day of action as each city will put posters of Kony around their city to raise awareness even further.
