Tributes have poured in on twitter over the death of ‘enigmatic’ Gregg Jevin, even though he never actually existed!
Comedian Michael Legg tweeted the message: ‘ Sad to say that Gregg Jevin, a man I just made up has died.’ The hashtag #RIPGreggJevin began trending the globe on Friday.
There were heartfelt tributes and messages from his followers, whose sad demise got the whole world talking.
Charlie Brooker even joined in tweeting: ‘Devastated by the loss of Gregg Jevin #RIPGreggJevin.
High street shops and corportations even got in on the act, as well as comics like Sarah Millican, Chris Addison and Danny Baker, plus a host of other celebrities. They all offered fake praise for the national treasure, who they deemed ‘mysterious.’
Waterstones Oxford Street had a sense of humour: #RIPGreggJevin. Gregg was one of our temporary Christmas staff a few years ago. Lovely bloke, our thoughts are with his family.’
The Radio Times jokingly paid tribute. They tweeted ‘Schedule update: 9.30 pm on BBC2, the tribute programme ‘Oh Well, Never Mind: The Gregg Jevin Story.’ #RIPGreggJevin.
T-Shirts have been created in memory of Jevin and he even had his own Wikipedia page. The trend appears to be a backlash by users of the Social networking site against numerous false ‘killings’of celebrities recently.
