Queen Celebrates 60 Years On Throne

Tuesday 14th February 2012 | Osh

Tributes poured in for Queen Elizabeth II as she marked 60 years on the throne, where she vowed to continue serving the British people.

Dressed for the occasion in a colourful overcoat and a Tiffany- blue hat, she was greeted by well wishers showing their support at an event which marked Accession day, the anniversary of the day in 1952 when she became Queen.

Around 150 people applauded the Queen’s arrival at the snow- covered town of King’s  Lynn.  Amongst her admirers were Laura Skrzynski, who said ‘I love that the Monarchy is above politics and feel that the queen represents that best of all.  She stands for integrity and respect, and I am inspired by her faith.’  She also praised the Queen for being ‘a constant through all our lives.’

This year marks the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebration, only Queen Victoria had a longer reign.  However, the Accession day is usually marked quietly because it also represents the anniversary of the death of Elizabeth’s father King George V1.

In a special message to the nation, she thanked everyone for their support and encouragement and said that her and her husband Prince Philip were ‘deeply moved.’

A series of regional, national and international events will mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee throughout 2012.
