Prince Charles led global celebrations in memory of Charles Dickens, a titan of English Literature famous for confronting the injustices of Victorian life with his vivid stories. This event marks the 200th anniversary of his birth.
Britain’s heir to the throne visited the Charles Dickens museum in London and went to Westminster to lay a wreath at the grave of the man famous for his legendary tales and characters, including Nicholas Nickleby, Oliver Twist and Ebeneezer Scrooge.
200 family members attended, making this the largest gathering of Dickens’ descendants.
Ongoing events from all over the world coincided with the anniversary including exhibitions in New York, Zurich and Britain, online tribute bloggers from Spain, and theatrical performances by professional actors and school children.
The literary great is still incredibly influential globally, and his appeal shows no sign of diminishing more than 140 years after his death.
